Make Emacs pretty with beautiful fonts

Over the years i’ve been trying to make emacs more readable, harmonizing it with the desktop themes. i dislike long lines and scrolling up and down so a small readable font is very important.

So here’s the evolution emacs had today:
left-top: default emacs 23
right-top : old
left-bottom : default with –font “Bitstream Vera Sans Mono-10″ -q
right-bottom : default –font “Inconsolata-11″ -q

So the lines fit on the 80columns, there’s plenty of lines shown and the font is beautiful.

I’ve used alot of fonts over the time, but the best font right now is Inconsolata font, created by Raph Levien, with the suport from the TeX Users Group Development Fund. It has so many gorgeous details like the curved t, and the g. oh, i’m in love :) Find out more about Inconsolata font!

Create a entry in the Konqueror right click menu

I just couldn’t believe this was easy as following this recipe: Konqueror Services Menus

How to prevent emacs from showing the splash screen

Emacs‘ splash screen is enable by default, even if it’s started with a argument, like opening a file. So the solution was always in the splash screen but you’ll find out how to remove the splash screen using the essencial dot emacs file

Hide emacs’ backups inside an hidden folder

browsing a working directory full of files and their backups, cli or gui wise, was turning into an annoying vision.

So, finally i decided to make those backups go elsewhere!

emacs cvs and the Multi Major Modes

i’ve been using the nXhtml package for emacs and has been useful. the php mode is great as is the xhtml one. but every time i tried to run the mmm i got the errors about the jit-lock-stealth-repeat-timer being void. The solution was later found!
